1. What is the purpose of summer education? Is it compulsory to take courses in summer school?
The summer school program is an opportunity granted to the students who have failed courses, want to raise their grade point averages, or want to lessen the course work within the academic year. In addition, summer school enables students to graduate in due time within the scope of relevant legislative provisions and allows successful students to graduate earlier.
It is not compulsory to take courses in summer school. Registration is optional and the courses are charged a fee.
2. What is the amount to be paid for a single course in the 2020-2021 Academic year summer school?
The 2020-2021 Academic year summer school tuition fee for IHU students is 4000 TL for intensive language courses (140 hours) and subject courses.
3. How are the summer school tuition fee payments done?
The summer school tuition fees can be paid either in cash or with credit cards through online payment channels. The bank account information for cash payments is as follows:

Please be informed that the summer school tuition fees should be paid during the course registration period before the course registrations are performed.
4. Do students who are granted scholarships also pay the summer school tuition fee?
Summer school courses are charged a fee also for students who are granted scholarships. The Board of Trustees specifies the amount per course in the summer school. All students are obliged to pay the specified tuition fee before they perform their summer school course registration.
5. Are there courses offered free of charge?
Our graduate students can register free of charge for the language courses at 501 and 502 levels, which they have to complete in accordance with our University's Multilingual Policy, and the internship courses, which they must take in accordance with their graduation requirements.
6. Will the add-drop and withdrawal processes be available in summer school?
As in the other semesters, students may add-drop a course or withdraw from a course in the summer school. These processes are conducted on the dates announced on the academic calendar.
7. Am I eligible for a tuition refund when I withdraw from a course in summer school?
If the students withdraw from a course until the end of the week following the beginning of the courses, 25% of the total fee is refunded. The students are not eligible for a tuition refund when they request to withdraw after the deadline.
8. When are the 2020-2021 Academic year summer school registrations performed?
The 2020-2021 Academic year summer school course registrations will be performed through Student Information System between June 30-July 1, 2021 and the courses will start on July 5 and end on August 27, 2021.
9. Is late registration possible for summer school courses?
The late registration period for summer school is the week in which the courses begin. The students may add and drop courses on the dates announced on the academic calendar.
10. Where can I learn the courses to be offered in the 2020-2021 Academic year summer school?
Courses to be offered each semester are announced on the Course Schedule section of oidb.ihu.edu.tr, on the date which is determined for the announcement of the relevant semester's schedule on the academic calendar.
Modern Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, and Japanese language courses will be offered in the 2020-2021 Academic year summer school.

11. How long is summer school?
The duration of the summer school is seven weeks. (One-week Feast of Sacrifice (Kurban Bayramı) holiday is also included in the 2020-2021 Academic year summer period.)
12. What is the difference between intensive and regular language courses?
Intensive language courses are only offered in summer school and are given 20 hours a week, covering two levels of regular language courses, which are held 5 hours a week in the fall and spring semesters. A student who has completed the first level of intensive language courses will have earned the credit, ECTS and language skills that he/she will earn when he/she completes the first two levels of a regular language course.
13. Are the course credits in the summer school different than those offered in the regular semesters?
There is no difference between the courses taken in the summer school and the courses taken in the fall and spring semesters in terms of credits and ECTS.
14. Are the course hours in summer school the same as the regular semester?
As the regular course duration is 14 weeks in the fall and spring semesters, summer school courses are composed of 7 weeks which are offered intensively. Thus, the number of weekly course hours is twice the number of weekly course hours in the regular semester.
15. How many ECTS credits can I take in the summer school?
The students can take up to a maximum of twenty-four ECTS credits limited with three courses in summer school. However, the students are allowed to follow only one intensive language course.
16. How will the courses registered in the summer school be shown on my transcript?
The courses taken and the grades awarded in the summer school are indicated under the summer semester section on the transcript.
17. Is the course attendance obligatory in the summer school?
As in the fall and spring semesters, there is an obligation to attend the courses and practices at the rate of 90% in preparatory programs, 80% in undergraduate programs, and 70% in graduate programs.
18. Can a course be taken from another higher education institution if the courses are not offered in the University’s summer school?
Students can take the courses that are not offered in our University’s summer school from another higher education institution with the permission of relevant School/Graduate School Board of Directors, regarding the equivalence, the medium of instruction and the credit load of the course.
19. How are the courses taken from another higher education institution’s summer school be shown on my transcript?
The relevant School Board of Directors evaluates the success grades of students who take courses from another higher education institution and the grades awarded are transferred to these students’ transcripts as equivalent grades of the grading scale used in our University. The letter grades should be minimum “C” in undergraduate programs while it is “B” in graduate programs. The letter grades below the specified are deemed as “F” (Failed).
