Frequently Asked Questions About the Grading System to be Used in 2019-2020 Spring Semester

Frequently Asked Questions About the Grading System to be Used in 2019-2020 Spring Semester

1-What is S/U grading system?

S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) grading system is a system used for the courses that are not included in the cumulative grade point average. In this system, the students are awarded S grades for the courses they have successfully completed while they are awarded U grades for the failed courses. These grades do not affect the grade point average. However, the ECTS credits of the S graded courses will have been earned.

2-Will the S/U grades appear on my transcript?

Yes, these grades will be shown on the transcript.

3-How will the S/U grade affect my semester grade point average or cumulative grade point average?

S/U grades do not affect the semester grade point average or cumulative grade point average. In this way, if the students convert the grades that are below the cumulative grade point average to S grades, their grade point average will not be lowered. Additionally, the failed courses converted to U grades will raise the grade point averages, as U grade is not included in the grade point average.

4-Do I need to repeat the courses that are converted to U grades?

The compulsory courses that are converted to U grade, need to be repeated in the following semesters. If the course is an elective course, the same course can be repeated, as well another course from the same elective group can be taken so as to be replaced for the U grade course.

5-Who may apply for S/U grade change?

The implementation of the S/U grades applies only to undergraduate students. The graduate or prep class students do not have the right to request changes.

6-How many of the courses can be converted to S/U grades? What are the requirements for this conversion?

You may request grade changes for all the failed or succeeded courses of 2019-2020 Academic year Spring semester without regard to the number of the courses. There are no requirements sought for application but only being an undergraduate student.

7-How and when can I apply for S/U grade change?

The grade change requests will be made through the application form to be e-mailed to the Student Affairs Department, following the announcement of 2019-2020 Academic year Spring semester letter grades.

The applications will be collected via studentaffairs@ihu.edu.tr e-mail between June 8-22, 2020. The requests after the deadline shall not be taken into consideration.

8-Where can I find the application form?

You may find the application form here.

9-Can a course converted to the S/U grade upon request, be converted back to a letter grade?

When the student applies for a new request within the application period, the grade of the relevant course can be converted to the initial letter grade. However, the student may not request a third grade change.
